BUILDING COMMUNTIY THROUGH THE ARTS

Schools Can Use Owl Creek Arts Center For Learning

While Owl Creek Arts Center serves the full circle of the arts community, it is also a great resource for Public schools and colleges. Here, they can talk with authors, musicians, painters, and more first hand, read interviews with established artists, enter contests themselves, and search a growing database of resources for the arts. It is a great place to do research for a report or term paper, to learn how to improve your own talents, and a great place to get inspiration. Owl Creek Arts Center also serves as a great place to find authors and artists to visit your school or college. This is also a great place to get a behind the scens look at the process of creating art, creating books and music, and actually learn what a publishing company does. Schools can even have a booked published of their students writing throught the Local Books Project. The best thing may be that this is a great place to read cutting edge work, see beautiful art or see groundbreaking videos. Plus with our gift store, you can buy awesome gifts for the creative loved one in your life.

Circle Of Success

I hope everyone's current projects are going well. OWL CREEK ARTS CENTER is designed to be a circle of success for everyone. New writers, poets, actors, musicians, writers, etc. enter contests, win some prizes, get some credits, they get advice from establshed pros, get better, pros have a place to promote their work, build buzz, and find other like minded people to help build their careers. Book stores get help promoting their stores, strengthening independent business, and assuring writers a place for their books to be sold. Fans of the arts have a place to interact with the artists they love, even influence new works to some degree, and artsists get feedback and an audience to sell their work to. Writers find new projects, everyone has resources to further their careers, and a huge circle of success is woven for everyone. It's built on the Win Win attitude of succesful people. Hopefully, some fo the projects we create here will have a positive effect on the world and we can all share our knowledge with each other. This is more than just another  place to get market tips and lists of where to submit your work. it's a place to make friends, get personal advice on how to handle life and the crazy situations that arise in the world of creativity. This will be as good of a place as we all make it. Someday, I hope to be using this community as an example of what the entire world can do if they try to cooperate with everyone and work together. A Vortex For The Arts Community

Owl Creek Arts Center is just now getting underway, but already the vision and scope of it is growing. The intitial site already has over 8,000 words, which is almost a small book, so I wanted to use the blog to truly clarify the movement we are starting. First of all, I have been involved with the arts since I was about 4, when I used to draw pictures and make little story books and bang on my great grandma's piano. I have been on stage as actor and musician, shot little film shorts, written stories and novels and over 400 poems and over 400 songs. My biography is on the Our Gang page of the arts center at http://www.owlcreekartscenter.com/TALENT_FOR_HIRE/OUR_GANG/our_gang.html
I have worked for Scholastic and in the Head Start program, both of which furthered my beleif that education and the arts are the key to a great, productive life. More on this in future posts. But this brings us to our topic. The arts center will help build character and encourage artistic expression in our youth. It will give guidance to all those struggling to break into the business http://www.owlcreekartscenter.com/FORUM/MAKING_IT/making_it.html
by giving advice on how to be a professional in both attitude and in the submission process. Owl Creek Arts Center will also help build community among all the different arts. I envision a movie director finding actors, a script writer, and music composers here and making a movie from relationships begun here. This is all part of my attempt to build not just another business, but a movement in the arts, a movement that values community and personal relationships, mutual responsibility, and an understanding of what a sustainable life and business culture involves. This movement will replace the all powerful, big business studio executives and media kingpins who control everything we read or watch. All through our society are examples of the few becoming wealthy on the backs of those who do most of the work in this country. Corporations have controlled our Government for decades and now because of their agenda, we now have a planet teetering on the brink of destruction. Not just from global climate change, but from our never ending struggle for oil, the pollution we produce, the unhealthy food we sell to our children, and on and on. Our culture's excuse for all this seems to be "As long as we make money, as long as the economy grows." But we need to change direction. 75 years ago, everyone was an Organic farmer. Now the corporations have our food supply dependant on oil, as it takes oil to make fertilizers. To read more of my rants on this, see my new blog http://blog.buckmanstavern.com/ How will an arts site change the world? One project at a time. By becoming more reliant on each other than a big corporation, but keeping more of the pie for ourselves and not sharing so much with the big giants. Now, I fully understand if that Doubleday contract is too good to resist, Michael Moore has proven you can do good within the system too. But we want to offer more creative folks the chance to do more projects with more like minded souls. This alone will be a movement.

Connecting artists with the community

Our blog will officially launch May 15, 2008. Our goal is to build community amongst creative souls, and connect the creative with those who who enjoy the arts.  We will give a voice to new and emerging artists and promote and feature the wisdom of established artists. Our focus will begin with writers, painters, and musicians, working in all mediums and styles. From this blog and the web site www.owlcreekartscenter.com

We hold contests, list resources, and help new creative artists get published and promoted. We will be a resource for schools and teachers, as well as librarians, mueseums, and publishers looking for new talent. Our web site will hold most of the details, our blog will serve as a forum and place for interaction. Are you ready to express yourself?
